We are all trying to do our bit for the environment but sometimes we struggle to know exactly what we can do. Especially when we are trying to keep our bathrooms clutter free. There are so many different swaps we can make to do our bit so here are some ideas for plastic free swaps for the bathroom that you can make yourself.
Use bars of soap rather than shower gels
Soap bars might not be the first thing you think of but when you consider how many plastic bottles you get through when using shower gels, then you will realise that is a lot of plastic. Make sure to opt for one that isn’t wrapped in plastic or containing palm oil as this isn’t eco-friendly either. Opt for one that is palm oil free and 100% natural.
Get shampoo and conditioner bars too
It isn’t just soap that comes in bars but you can get shampoo and conditioner too! Again, very eco friendly and perfect for travelling as you don’t have to worry about liquids leaking or even worry about liquid restrictions.
Switch to a bamboo toothbrush
Did you know that billions of plastic toothbrushes are thrown away each year, worldwide? Plenty of these end up rotting away in the sea or washed up on beaches. Switching to a bamboo toothbrush (bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial) will stop your plastic usage – an average person uses around 300 in their lifetime so stopping as early as you can means a lot less plastic finding its way into the oceans!
Get reusable wipes and makeup remover pads
Have you ever considered how many baby wipes or makeup remover wipes you get through? How about the cotton pads? Why not consider reusable wipes or pads? These can be popped into the washing machine and reused time and time again. Plenty of disposable wipes claim to be biodegradable but are nothing of the sort.
Change your toilet paper
Did you know you can even make your toilet paper habits plastic free too? No more buying toilet rolls from the supermarket wrapped in plastic for you. There are many companies who deliver toilet rolls, plastic free, to your door.
Sort out your makeup
Finally, go through your makeup stash and make more eco friendly choices. Opt for small businesses who are more likely to care about the environment – many of them out there are zero waste and plastic free so why not give them a go and support a small business at the same time?
These are just a few tips for you to help you on your plastic free journey. Do you use any of these products already?
