World on a Plate Challenge With Expedia

Recently I was challenged by Expedia to step out my culinary comfort zone and to choose a menu we could have over the festive season but the condition is it must be one from another country.

french chicken, bacon and peasNow this world on a plate challenge got me thinking at just how restrictive our meals have become while I have been pregnant and in part that has been down to my lacking enthusiasm in the kitchen.

Those folks that know me personally will know I do love a challenge and so I decided to go with a French theme to my menu as I would love to travel to France on Holiday as I the last time I was there I was 15 and didn’t experience half as much as I would love to right now.

There are several recipes I have been looking at trying and adapting to the needs of my picky husband that I think would also make fantastic festive meals as they can be eaten anytime and are not to complex to make.

chicken, bacon and peas full ingredients
Firstly I decided to go with a French style Chicken with Peas and Bacon as a main as all but 2 of the ingredients my husband couldn’t tolerate to so the question was … Would he notice the spring onions and Crème fraîche? in amongst the chicken stock, chicken, bacon, peas and little gem lettuce.

To go with the main I decided to cook Pommes Anna as I know these are really easy to make and make a nice change from mash!

Although you really need to slice the potatoes to about 1mm thick I don’t have a mandolin so I just had to make do!

For pudding the one thing I adore from the French cuisine is the French Apple Tart … so having never made one before it was time to have ago myself!

French apple tart
I expected to fail dismally at this pudding since I am never much good at making things look pretty and it seems that maybe French cuisine is my thing after all as even I was impressed at not only what it looked like but also how it tasted!

This was by far my most favourite part of the French cuisine for the World On A Plate Challenge. I loved it so much I have plans to make another!

Over the next few weeks I will be putting up full recipe details for each of these dishes so you could have a go yourself!

Thanks for the challenge Expedia.
