The Great Oliver Cake Off

cake offA few weeks back my dearest husband challenged me …

While discovering some stunning cake creations on Pintrest I showed my husband a cake that I really liked the look of, and declared that even though I had only one proper cake under my belt I was going to make a kitkat cake at the upcoming Oliver family gathering.

He laughed …

And then proclaimed that I would never ever be able to make a cake even half as good … he than stated “even I could make a better cake than you” .. gee thanks

So I accepted his challenge … after all there is nothing better than a little bit of matrimonial competitiveness to earn ourselves a divorce so who was I to argue!

The Oliver family gathering was set for Sunday 15th March and so the week before I asked husband dearest for his list of ingredients and any items he would need as I was intending to collect them on Saturday morning on the way back from London …. The list was short .. However after questioning the shortness I was advised to worry about my own cake.

So after collecting the ingredients for both my own and hubbys cake I got stuck in as soon as I was through the front door!

I split my cake into 2 tins and baked … after an issue with being too impatient I nearly lost my cake trying to get them on the cooling racks before they were ready but thankfully all was not lost!

After allowing my cake to cool it was decoration time!

At this point Ollie came home and walked in …

And almost wept .. although  after his attempt there was an announcment

However he claimed his cake was still a winner

However it really was my creation that won

And I have to say I am rather proud of my easter cake creation!

What a giggle, it sounds like it was a fun day in the Oliver household. I think we all know who the winner was, whether your hubby admits it or not! I must say your cake looks too good to eat… almost.

I LOOOVE your cake. It’s so festive and quite a beauty (sorry to your husband, but valiant effort on his part). I think I may have to steal your idea and make an easter cake of my own! Thank you for sharing!

That is flippin fabulous! You’ve inspired me to get baking tomorrow, I’m kitkatless though and not sure a cake covered in penguin biscuits will cut it.

It’s fabulous Jaime! Well done you 🙂 I had to use kit kats the last time I made one like this, I think the choc fingers look better!
