A lack of worktop space is high on the list of small kitchen frustrations. In fact, even if your kitchen isn’t small, it can be incredibly frustrating to have appliances cluttering up your worktop space.

If your cupboards are full and your worktops are too, how are you supposed to manage all that extra stuff?

The truth is, it doesn’t have to be complicated. It may take a few hours of organising and finding solutions, but you will be able to free up worktop space in a few simple steps.

Put Your Drawers to Good Use

Drawers can hold far more than just cutlery. In fact, they can hold so many different things. Things from the panty, spices and even little Knick knacks fit beautifully. This will free up more cupboard space to store some of your kitchen appliances.

Use Baskets or Stackers

I love using baskets or shelf stackers. They can double the surface area you have in your pantry or cupboards. I also use under shelf baskets. These can hold things like plates, cups, or jars to ensure there is far more shelf space.

Wall Shelves

If you find yourself short on worktop space, consider adding open wall shelving. Wall shelves can be used for so many thing. They could be use to store spices, dishes and even small appliances usually stored on your worktop up onto the walls and out of the way.

Pegboards aren’t just for your garage or office. In fact, they can be used right in your kitchen.  As they are a great help to organise things like spices and cans. There are many possibilities when it comes to pegboard storage. With this system there are a variety of shelving and hanging options. So you can really choose what works for you.

Use Space Above Cupboards

If you find your work tops are cluttered with infrequently used items. Move them up high above your cupboard space.

The space between the ceiling and your cabinets is often under-utilised. And can provide amazing storage for things like cutting boards and wooden spoon storage.

Utilise Your Windowsill

Have you ever thought about windowsills as storage locations?

Well, they certainly can be used for a variety of different storage options. If your windowsill is deep enough it can be used to hold things like kitchen canisters, cookbooks. In fact, you can even use a pressure rod to hang things from to give you even more space.

There are many ways to free up the work top space in your home. If you find yourself getting frustrated with your lack of space, it is time to get creative with your storage options.
