Sorting Better Sleep With A Sloane & Sons Richmond Memory Foam Mattress

Recently we were thrilled to discover a new brand over on our parenting blog when we reviewed a Sloane & Sons teak garden bench when we updated our garden to be more family friendly and we were keen to work with them again.

Sloane & Sons have several different areas of their business and another is mattresses that come in 5 different bed sizes and range in pricing and options from memory foam through to pocket sprung and having recently agreed to finally finish off our bedroom after 2 years of waiting for a new bed being asked to review one of their memory foam mattress couldn’t have come at a better time.

For the last 7 years Ollie and I have been using a standard UK double bed frame and over the last year Ollie has relocated halfway through the night into the spare room as he can’t prise me back to my side of the bed and get comfortable again.

So not only were we looking to increase to a King size bed frame for space but also to find a more structured mattress than the one we had previously as he has painful hips and I have a painful pelvis and spine.

Sloane & Sons foam mattresses come in 3 varieties, Twickenham, Wimbledon and Richmond. Each offering slight differences not only with price but with thickness too. We were sent the thickets of the mattresses the Richmond which has a 28cm thickness.

When it came it was delivered in a box that was immensely heavy but on opening the box it was slightly mad to see a rolled up mattress in there!

I laid it out on our bed frame and then removed the packaging and within a few hours the mattress was MASSIVE! I honestly am still shocked it fitted in the box.

There was a slight plastic odour to the mattress for the first 24 hours but it soon dissipated and it wasn’t something I freaked out by as I know that foam mattresses can leave a slight smell in the room when they first are used.

I unpacked mine early in the morning and gave it the full day to breathe and fill out before we used it and it was perfect for bedtime.

Initially Ollie wasn’t convinced it was comfortable but by night 2 he certainly was. It has a 7/10 firmness rating and this is what I hoped for as our previous mattress was fairly soft and we both ended up achy and sore in the morning.

By the second morning I had him convinced as he woke up for the second night in far less pain than ever before. For me I knew a firm more controlled mattress would make the difference.

We have now been using it for a number of weeks and I can report that Ollie has not gone back to the spare room since and for me even on the warmer nights we have been super comfortable and I think this is down to the quality natural breathable knitted fabric which is aided by Aloe Vera which is beneficial for antibacterial and anti-perspire properties.

The mattress for me gives enough for you to feel like you are held by it but remains hard enough that it holds without sagging and I have literally passed out each night which in turn has made me feel so much better every morning mentally.

The Sloane & Sons Richmond king size mattress currently is retailing for £299 for the king size which I have to say I thought was rather inexpensive for the quality feel it gives.

Overall we are currently super thrilled with the mattress and the sleep we are finally getting … in the same bed!
