There are lots of ways to get crafty at home, including with food and drink. If you like to know exactly what goes into what you eat and drink, making your own drinks is a lot of fun. When you think of home brewing, you probably think of making beer first of all. But there are lots of drinks you could make at home, which you can then bottle to enjoy yourself or maybe give away as gifts. You don’t always need special equipment, although it can often help to have a few handy tools. Take a look at these ideas for making your own drinks.
Make Your Own Tea Drinks
If you drink tea, you probably have a standard drink. You have a favourite brand, like it a certain colour and know how many sugars you like. But there’s a lot more you can do with tea, especially if you start exploring loose leaf tea. Whittards is a popular brand to pick up some decent tea, and you can then find lots of recipes for both hot and cold drinks. You could make your own iced tea or a kombucha drink, and you can even use tea for cocktails.
Beer, Wine or Cider
Making your own alcoholic drinks at home is easier than you might think. There are lots of kits you can buy too, which makes it simply to get all of the equipment and ingredients that you might need. You could make beer, wine or cider, which is especially good if you have an apple tree in your garden and no idea what to do with all of the apples. In a matter of weeks, you can make your very own alcoholic drink. You could also consider using fruit to make things like sloe gin, cherry liqueur and other tasty drinks.
Homemade Fizzy Drinks and Other Soft Drinks
If you don’t fancy anything alcoholic, there are other soft drinks you could make. Something fizzy can be fun for the family, and you can make it healthier than you might buy in the shops too. You can make ginger beer with a very low alcohol content, or you can make lemonade. Juices and syrups are easy to make too, and you can then dilute and carbonate them using a Soda Stream or something similar. Of course, smoothies and juices are super easy to make too.
This summer it’s all about Elderflower drinks and I have been looking to try new recipes and this one from All That I am Eating sounds lush! Elderflower, Cucumber & Mint Fizz!
Flavour Own Vodka
It’s illegal to distill alcohol without a licence in the UK, even though you’re allowed to make beer, cider and wine. Fortunately, it’s super easy to create flavoured vodkas using all kinds of things. You can use chillies, for example, to create a spicy chilli-infused vodka. Another fun idea is to buy a gin kit, which allows you to turn vodka into gin using various flavours and infusions. These can make excellent and easy gifts to give to friends and family.
Homemade drinks are fun to have at home, and they make unique gifts too. It’s a great thing to do as the nights get colder.
