We tend to be total Aunt Bessie’s fans in this house, often relying heavily on them before I started cooking journey, however these days their products are still firmly in the freezer as they have saved my bacon on more than one occasion! So when I was asked to take a look and taste at Aunt Bessie’s new range of cakes I was thrilled!
First on the list of things to try from Aunt Bessie’s was the much drooled over jam bakes. Each individual tart is made with an all-butter short crust pastry and filled with fruity raspberry jam and Ollie has had his eye on these since he walked through the door!
They had a lovely amount of jam inside for me and not only were they nice eaten alone they were also lovely with custard too!
My totally favourite type of cake was next on the list! …. carrot cake – It’s always been one of my faves and I have tried lots over the years so I was looking forward to this one!
It was lovely and soft with just enough moisture with its cream cheese topping and chopped walnuts it was utterly tasty .. Although with it being a serves 6 cake, I have to say I might not want to share with anyone, although fab RRP of £1.50!
Our last taste test was the sticky ginger cake that is made with real stem ginger, again with an RRP for £1.50 it’s an idea size for a tasty family treat and I have to say I am not a massive fan of ginger cake normally as I can find it too strong in flavour but this one was lovely, nice and moist like the carrot cake and it wasn’t too crumbly.
I also really loved the cardboard and plastic cake protector it came in too .. So ideal to take with on a family picnic!
Overall not one of use disliked anything about the samples that were sent from the new Aunt Bessie’s cake range, that being said I will certainly be buying them on future shopping trips I have no doubt!
