How To Reduce Your Grocery Budget

Closeup on money in piggy bank and purchases from local market on tableWhen it comes to making cuts to help make extra wiggle room in the family budget most people look to cut their food budget.

This is because food is a variable expense that can be cut and changed as needed. For some families, this cut just seems to get tighter and tighter. With the rising prices families need new tricks to help reduce their grocery budget and feed their families.

A grecery receipt over a bag of vegetablesOne of the things you might need to consider when you decide to reduce your grocery budget is to think about taking multivitamins. This also needs to be considered if you have a picky eater to ensure that they are getting everything they need. As families reduce their budgets for food they often reduce the nutrition their family is getting.

Even if you work hard to cover all of the bases this can still affect you because a body that has everything it needs is less hungry and will eat less. This is why growing kids that need more nutrition eat so much more.

Fill in meals with plenty of cheap proteins. Protein helps you get full and feel full longer while building strong bodies and even helping to build your child’s brain.

Take advantage of clearance meats. These simply need frozen or cooked as soon as you get home and get you a huge discount. Take advantage of quality plant-based proteins like beans to help fill in gaps and stretch meals.

Fresh multi-color farm eggs on the table.Eggs make a great frugal protein. While farm fresh eggs are the best for nutrition when you are on a tight budget you can often find a great deals in the supermarket by buying eggs in larger quantities.

Get more fibre in your diet. Skip the juice and opt to spend your money on fresh whole fruits and vegetables. These are just as sweet and fun but still contain all of their fibre that helps fill you up faster.

At the end of the day many supermarkets sell off fruits and vegetables that are on or close to their best before dates so finding a bargain can be done in the evening if yous hope wisely.

Take advantage of the filling properties of grains. While you do not want to make the majority of your family’s diet grains as they burn off fast and hold less nutrition you can use grains to make meals more filling. Add oats to your sweets and baked goods, serve savoury dishes on a bed of rice, and make homemade bread to serve with meals.

Whole grains, oats, flax, poppy, wheatgerm, granola, sunflower seeds.Drinking water is a great way to reduce your grocery budget. You can add water flavorings or make tea with cheap tea bags. Drinking water throughout the day will help you feel fuller and help beat cravings for sweets. By switching to water many families can save a large chunk of their budget too which is a massive bonus.

Meal planning can be a real money saver for so many families. As a nation we are fairly wasteful and most of our food waste is just because we don’t eat it in time so by meal planning and purchasing only what needed it means we throw less away.
