Christmas Gifts That Aren’t As Expensive As You Think

Is it too early to start thinking about Christmas? The shopping frenzy seems to kick off earlier and earlier each year, but it doesn’t hurt to get a jump on your gift list, does it?

If you’re looking to treat someone special this year, why not add a more thoughtful touch? Take a look at these great ideas for Christmas gifts that aren’t as expensive as you think.

Empty glasses set in restaurant. Part of interiorFine dining experiences

Sometimes the best gifts are the ones that create memories, making experience gifts a great choice of presents for your loved ones. While you might normally shy away from dining at top restaurants, restaurant experiences can be a fantastic way to sample amazing food without a large bill at the end. Virgin Experience Days offer excellent value and you might even be able to pick up a discount code to save further money.

A personalised number plate

Why not give a Christmas gift that you couldn’t just get anywhere? A personalised number plate is a luxury you might have always wanted, but didn’t want the cost that goes with it. It’s more affordable than ever to pick up personal number plates, which can make a fantastic gift to give to someone else. Whether you’ve got a teen about to get their first car or a loved one in need of a flash accessory, a personalised number plate makes a good gift for Christmas.

Luxury jewellery

Jewellery is always a winner at Christmas, and if you’re stuck for something to buy, you’ll find it hard to go wrong with something sparkly. While you might not have the budget for Cartier, you can still take advantage of some beautiful items that offer excellent value for money. Some top choices for affordable designer jewellery brands include Monica Vinader and Missoma, which will be a welcome gift under the Christmas tree. Pearl jewellery also makes an affordable option, and doesn’t come with the expensive price tag you might think it has.

High-end beauty products

While top beauty products might not be a part of your regular spending, the good news is that you can pick them up much cheaper during the festive season. Beauty gift sets offer great value as they often contain multiple products for the price of a single one – particularly perfumes which often come in sets with body lotions and shower gels thrown in. Many makeup brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown and NARS bring out special edition Christmas gift sets which are a top luxury gift that seem more expensive than they really are.

City breaks

A city break makes an excellent Christmas gift, especially if you get to go too! City breaks in the winter can offer some of the cheapest prices of the year. Not only can you benefit from cheaper hotels and cheaper flights, but you can also enjoy fewer fellow travellers. There are some great websites to find cheap city breaks, or you can do the DIY method and book flights and accommodation yourself. Why not spend New Year’s in Prague, Venice or Vienna and enjoy some of Europe’s best cities for less?

Designer clothes

While your taste might be more high-street than high-end, it’s always nice to give something a little special at Christmas. Designer clothing can be within your budget if you know where to look. Check out different websites where you can buy cheaper designer clothes and pick out items that will last year after year. Jumpers, jeans, coats, and accessories make particularly good gifts as they will last longer than trend-led items and can make a permanent feature in someone’s wardrobe.

Fine wines

Is there anything better than a high-quality fine wine? Perhaps not, but it’s much more affordable to pick up your supermarket’s finest instead! However, there are some excellent wine gifts you can buy that make fine wines a very affordable gift. A subscription to a wine club or a purchase from a wholesaler can work out as great value per bottle, and feels much more luxurious than your average bottle of plonk!

Christmas can be a difficult time of year when you’re struggling with your finances, which is why it’s important to set a budget for your spending. Even the smallest of budgets can be stretched further if you know how, so look for ways to find some great bargains. Meanwhile, these hacks for saving money at home could help you save some extra pennies over the next couple of months to help with your Christmas shopping.
