We all know what a wonderful place Facebook is for discovering the new and quirky and a few weeks ago it was one of those very occasions when I landed on a youtube video with some amazingly beautiful Rice Krispie Christmas Trees.
Perfect for this time of the year and yet even I can’t go wrong make rice Krispie cakes can I?
Well, the simple answer is yes, yes I can.
After watching a this wonder women create these festive delights I then subsequently decided to have a go myself but forgetting where I had discovered them so was working blind.
I vaguely remembered it was 200g of both chocolate and Krispies so set about having a try at these and I’m not going to lie I threw the first lot way …. After melting the chocolate and adding in the green food colouring they wouldn’t mix … at all. In fact the chocolate almost curdled… it was vile.
On take 2 I worked in a much smaller quantity and managed to get something similar, although nowhere near the same standard as Lauren had.
I was super disappointed and if I’m honest my very fragile baking mojo had taken a beating.
Joshua and Ollie both loved them and they said they tasted fine, even after my second mistake was to run out or greaseproof paper so ended up using foil!
However this week I have finally discovered the full name of the person that so beautifully created these festive trees in the first place, Lauren from Lauren Caris Cooks is the wonder women that hooked me into having a go.
But having now had chance to read the blog post and watch the video again at least I know why I did fail … I used water based food colouring! …. Yes I really am that much of a novice.
If you are looking to try your hand at some festive nibbles, or maybe a children’s cooking afternoon then these Rice Krispie Christmas Trees that Lauren makes might just be for you too!
I am going to give them another go at some point and here’s hoping I have left those rookie mistakes behind ready for the second attempt!
