I enjoyed batch cooking previously as this means that I can enjoy being in the kitchen when I have time and yet still have healthy, tasty home cooked meals on the days that manic doesn’t quite cover it!
However we have been storing all our batch cooking into our Pyrex dishes up until this point which is great for ensuring a family meal is catered for but not if there are only 2 of us eating instead of 3 so over the summer I have been trying to work out if the takeaway tins would be a better option.
The takeaway tins are super cheap if you buy in bulk, freezable and you can not only store in the freezer more easily as they can be stacked but also the lids are writable, so we can see not only whats in there but also when it was frozen.
So far we have discovered that with buying the 2 different sizes we have been able to freeze an extra meal for almost everything we have cooked on top of my batch cooking afternoons so we really do have a freezer full of nutritious meals but also the cost of buying the tins has been far outweighed by fact that we are eating far healthier portion sizes too. In the past Ollie (hubs) would have just said oh stick it on mine … Now we are able to plate up a normal size and then freezer a small container with leftovers for another meal another time.
Over the next 2 weeks I have lots of new recipes planned that I will be taking into the kitchen in the hopes they make good freezable batch cooking meals as with a new baby in the new year learning to cook and store what is healthy and nutritious will save more than a lot of stress and tears and save a lot of money too.
